Sainsbury’s Chatham collecting for Home-Start Medway

Sainsbury’s Chatham collecting for Home-Start Medway

From yesterday, Sainsbury’s Chatham are kindly collecting food for Home-Start Medway Families in their Chatham Store.

This will provide our families who are finding it difficult to manage financially, some additional support to be able to provide meals for their children.

“We are extremely grateful to Sainsbury’s Chatham for choosing us as one of their 2 charities benefiting from donations made by their customers. We have just been to meet Serena at the Chatham store and were overwhelmed by the generosity their customers had already been showing the other chosen charity, with donations overflowing. This project will link very nicely with our REAP partnership tackling crisis and hardship and our Financial Fitness Champions, supporting families with budgeting, benefits and debt guidance. How lucky are we to work in Medway and have this level of support from residents and Sainsbury’s. It really makes me proud to be part of Medway” Gill Valentine Chief Officer

The Bake Off funded by Kent Community Foundation was in full force supporting our Army community from Brompton Barracks, forces families and former forces families across Medway to reduce isolation and loneliness. A simple idea, with massive impact.

Home-Start Medway runs weekly home visiting support, a Domestic Abuse and Young Parent project, Financial Fitness Champions, Education around sleep, potty training and introducing solid food, direct support for tackling hardship and crisis and Parent and Tots style groups across Medway including the intergenerational Grey ‘n’ Play and Army Stay ‘n’ Play

This is only possible with the help of their dedicated volunteers who range in age from 19-80. Volunteers are recruited and trained over 6 weeks and then go on to support Medway families by home visiting families once a week, helping run their groups, offering support with financial concerns, supporting the local Domestic Abuse One Stop Shop, office admin, DIY and of course governance as a trustee.
